Bilingual preschool app: each child plays in English or Spanish

Many families in the United States live in two languages: Spanish at home and English at school, or the other way around. Ziippi is a preschool app for ages 2 to 5 where you choose English or Spanish for each child, and every instruction is read aloud in that language.

Getting started

What “bilingual” means in Ziippi

Two languages to choose from, one per child. Each profile plays in English or in Spanish, and a session does not mix the two. Siblings can each play in a different language on the same device.

In English, your child practices numbers, letters, colors and shapes, tracing and feelings, and in Speak learns first words in Spanish. In a profile set to Spanish, the spoken instructions are in Spanish and are not translated.

Which language for which child

If your child hears mostly Spanish at home, a Spanish profile keeps preschool practice in the language they understand best. If English is their stronger language, or they are starting school in English, choose English. Not sure? Notice which language your child answers in when you ask a question, and sit with them for the first sessions.

What a session looks like in English

Your child picks an area and listens. In Numbers the voice asks “How many puppies do you see?” and your child taps 3. In Letters they hear “sss… sun” and tap the s. In Discover they are asked “Which one is red?”; in My hands they trace a circle; in Feelings they tap the sad face. They answer by tapping or dragging and can listen again before answering.

Letter sounds written for each language

The letter and sound activities in English are not a translation of the Spanish ones. They were written for English: rhymes, first sounds, syllables and the sound each letter makes, like the /s/ in sun. In Spanish, the same area works with Spanish vowels and syllables. In English, these activities are for ages 3 and up.

One profile per child, no ads

Each child has their own profile with their name, age and language, so siblings can share a device without mixing their progress. No ads, and nothing in the child’s area costs real money: the in-game shop only takes seeds earned by playing. Account settings and the subscription live in the parent area, behind an adult PIN, where you can also see progress by topic and a calendar of sessions.

How billing works

Ziippi is a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Eligible accounts get a trial when they confirm in the store. After that, the plan you choose is charged and renews automatically unless you cancel it in the store before the renewal date. The store shows the exact price and date before you accept.

Frequently asked questions

Does a session mix English and Spanish?

No. Each profile plays in one language, the one you chose for that child.

Can siblings play in different languages?

Yes. Each child has their own profile, language and progress, and you switch between them from the family screen.

Are all six areas available in English?

Yes. Numbers, Letters, Discover, My hands and Feelings are played in English, and in Speak your child learns first words in Spanish, with the instructions in English.

What ages is it for?

Ages 2 to 5, the preschool years.

How do I cancel?

From your subscriptions in the App Store or Google Play, depending on where you subscribed. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
